Now I’m not a cat expert, but during the summer months when I return to the UK, I have two beauties as almost constant companions who are never more than the shake and the unique sound of cat treats bag away.
Both of our cats are extremely motivated by food and it’s how I get them in for the evening so we know where they are at night.
However, I have concluded they don’t know their names as the rest of my family believe. I did until we got our second cat, Teddy. Before this, I would call the black cat, Slinky, and usually if he thought there was something in it for him, he would come running. Teddy reacts in exactly the same way whether I call his name or that of slinky.
If they have an edge on their appetite, shaking the cat’s treat bag works wonderfully well. However, they come to either name, which makes me believe they have learned my voice, and are responding to the tone I use, which is like ringing a dinner bell.
Whether they recognise their name I’m uncertain, but they’re defiantly intelligent. Unless it’s catching rodents, which are also to them FOOD, they don’t do a stroke of work. But have manipulated us to let them into our homes and treat them like members of the family and care for their every need.
Mine have just been feed and now I have one on either side of me purring like outboard motors. They both know how to schmooze humans.
As always, I’d love to hear your comments, thoughts and questions. If you would share this with your family, friends and acquaintances, I would be very grateful. Just use the below button.
